Schedule
June 9 is arrival day. The Institute opens on June 10.
Participants will conduct the Classical sized or Romantic sized orchestra on each of 6 rehearsal days (3 days each week). Podium time for these orchestra sessions will be 15 minutes for each participant.
10 minutes of video review with a faculty member immediately follows his/her orchestra sessions.
Evening sessions with the piano sextet provide additional instructional time for participants to work through the next day's repertoire. Each conductor will have 10 minutes daily with the sextet to prepare for each rehearsal.
The schedule is rigorous. All participants should arrive fully prepared to conduct their repertoire selections.
Two Classical orchestra concerts are presented at the end of the first week, and two large orchestra concerts conclude the second week of the Institute.
Maestro Balan leads morning warm-up and technical exercises, and Maestro Gambetta presents afternoon sessions of Laban based training designed to help conductors improve connections between their gestures and musical intentions. Weekly score study roundtable sessions with faculty are part of the schedule, and each instructional day ends with a evening wrap up gathering with Institute faculty and staff.
The Institute schedule includes one free day with no rehearsal or concert. Optional side trips are available to explore the Romanian countryside, monasteries and culture.
Departure day is June 23.
